Default The Future of Shoptacular, Part II

While I wait for somebody at the Towers to respond to my request for 'Polls' to be enabled in vBulletin, I'm giving up on the Poll idea - just reply saying Yae or Nae

Actinic have already received this proposition (in a little more detail and hopefully slightly more coherent format) a couple of months back, no reply as yet, so thought I'd see how it'd go down with you guys. I apologise in advance for the poor punctuation and general crapness of what I've got to say...

I joined a bunch of developers to create a piece of software which effectively creates an online business portal (very similar to Yell.com, can't go in to any further detail on that). We have also created a system which can accept data feeds (same format as that of Google Products - which Actinic coincidentally already creates) for your products, this also integrates with the aforementioned software.

What this will do is create a business listing for your company - it would be limited to all Actinic stores/developers - and allow you to add your Actinic products too. Clicking the product takes the user to the retailers product page - in effect, the same setup as Google Products.

In your listing, you can do just about anything - you basically have control over what you want on your listing page (login details are obviously required to edit a listing), some features already available are Google Maps, Twitter and just about anything else you can drop into an HTML page - everything is moderated in the back-end system.

The idea is this would generate business for everybody using Actinic, developing with Actinic and ultimately Actinic themselves.

It highlights the retailers products/business - result for the retailer.

It highlights the developers business, you can also highlight work you've done - result for the developers.

It highlights what can be done with Actinic - result for Actinic.

There's still a few more features that would also benefit this situation. Another major plus for the developer is the ability for visitors to Vote on specifics - you can choose what your vote options are - eg. site design, ease of use, etc - the listing system lets visitors list sites by rating on these options - therefore visitors can easily see the highest rated site based on 'design' or 'ease of use', etc. The system is also virtually spam-proof so you can't rig your votes!

We have created the software, now we are looking for another company to use our software. I'd like to showcase the software we created - and as I use Actinic on a daily basis, thought it'd be the perfect model.

As I say, if you think this would be of benefit to yourself, or to Actinic, or to anybody - reply with a simple answer or anything you want

Unfortunately not - looking at what Shoptacular has, the software we have created has far more features

As far as Actinic goes, their response has been limited, so perhaps I can re-review this idea and run the site openly, as long as you can add a CSV feed your products will be added automatically, SPP SEO'd. Sound worthwhile? After all - this isn't commercial, this is simply a site to show what the software can do for prospective buyers - it'll be completely free to use so why not?

As I said in part one by limiting it too actinic you are on a looser IMO. Actinic users are far too busy just trying to get the software working to run thier site to be able to do anything else.

Which software are you talking about showcasing ? Yours or actinic - if it's actinic then forget it IMO as it's had it's day and other software does far more easier.

If actinic themselves cannot be bothered to reply to you then it shows thier level of interest in a venture designed to help them Market thier software.

Primarily to showcase our software - obviously as the idea was to limit to Actinic sites, it would also showcase Actinic. Killing two birds with one stone as it were.

Looking at all the other shopping cart solutions knocking around (Magento, Cube cart, Interspire, etc) they all have the ability to export CSV's and most have the ability to export for Google Products. Perhaps I'll go back with the team and have a look at giving various ecommerce solutions the option to import their products.

I'll be back...
