Freelancing unique text

Here's something that may be of interest and I guess it belongs here as it has a huge benefit for SEO.

One thing we struggle with is finding the time and the talent to write decent length, good for SEO, product descriptions. Most of our bigger competitors just use the standard waffle and we can often get to top spot in google by creating a good 250 word description with plenty of keywords.

So, I decided to try freelancer.co.uk and put up an and asking for somebody who could re-write or create good descriptions. I wasn't expecting much but within a week we have had over 100 offers. I've only got around to replying to the first 10 or so and from those, picked a couple who could actually string a sentence together. So I've now got a couple guys writing us nice descriptions in 2 unique versions (1 for each site) for around £4-5 per product.

I have had offers down to a quid a product but need a bit of quality control. It's only been a week but I'm sure the benefits for SEO are going to far outweight the cost of this work.

Just food for thought. There are also loads of people on there offering all kinds of stuff from php to SEO to blog writing etc.

I found this site via Ben at Actinic, as they have used it themselves, prices seem good but as you say quality control would be vital.

I asked for one sample. Then based on that commissioned them to each write 10 descriptions at a fixed price and we would pay, whatever they were like. The worst we edited ourselves and used, the best have been put onto further jobs.

Cheers for that Steve, we have 1000's of products and its such a chore trying to be inventive and different with the description all the time.
    I always sound like me!

Now that for me gets a goat point.

I know, same here. It seems like a lot of cash really but we are doing it over time and really, nost of our products are about £5 anyway so we are effectively sacrificing one unit of probably 2-300 that we buy in the first place to get an SEO friendly description and hopefully increase sales on that item and across the site generally.

    totally agree Steve.
And if you're canny with the products you do it for and the products you link from them you could be pretty strategic...

Don't you find so much stuff just never gets done, tweaks here a blog there; great to have a way to get a few things off the list. :)

Along a similar theme - we have commissioned a number of articles for our site (on exciting subjects such as Pet Water Fountains and Catnip!)

Tried 3 different companies and all were pretty good and the cost very reasonable at between £8 & £15 per article.

Also had to tweak a little - but that is so much easier than starting from scratch and writing myself.

odesk seem to be a cracking website to 'offload' some work.
The system they use seems straight forward and easy to manage.
