    Sorry, no Flash no buy.

Flash isn't perfect, and things on the web might look a lot different in a couple of years time, but to offer a "full web experience" without Flash at the moment is a non-starter for me. :(

I like my iPhone but I'm not convinced that the iPad is for me. It's too big to go in my pocket and doesn't have anywhere near the flexibility of a notepad computer. No standard software, no mutlitasking, etc.

iphone is enough for me too - you can have too many gadgets!

i might look at ipad when my netbook needs to be replaced though but i hope that wont be for a year or so

[EDIT] having seen the prices - forget it!!!

I'm having a problem with the iPad on a few levels. Mainly the appstore lock-in and apple's frustrating views on apps that are and arent allowed.

There are millions of apps to make my eyes bleed, but I think the lack of freedom fro developers means i'll be buying (or building) an android pad.

The pricepoint is another one. Its too damned expensive to justify something that i'll not really use that much.

I must admit that the price gave me a shock as I expected it to be quite a bit cheaper but they are for my kids as their PCs are on the way out.

You'd better check they're not hooked on Orisinal or Farmville.....;)

Crikey. I'd never have thought of the Ipad suitable as a PC alternative. It's a great 2nd device but I'd always want a proper PC for serious work and / or gaming.

I do like the ipad but will wait for version 2. I think there are too many shortcomings with first version:

    - no SD slot
    - no USB interface
    - no multitasking (hopefully fixed in OS 4)
    - Can you really not print from it?
    - 1080p video playback and output needed. Limited to 720p at present.

I see the ipad as a great way to access media from the internet and locally so these shortcomings really limit it at the moment. None of them are that difficult but they might involve a new chip design so could take longer to arrive than I'd like.

I think apple have already won TBH - when HTML 5 hits the streets then Flash will die IMO

There's a lot of patent wars on the go with all parties suing and counter-suing.
I agree that with the advent of HTML5 Flash may dwindle over time. As ever though it will take quite some time for any standards changes to filter through the to the web at large.

I think the Macs and the iPhone are great but the competition is changing very fast and I think Apple's approach to restrict app development is quite arrogant and short sighted.

As a side note I would like to see a keyboardless Macbook all in one the size of an iPad. That would be a product I would buy in preference to the iPad. Something like a small Mac version of the Contiq. (http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/01/wacoms-new-cintiq-21ux-pen-display-ups-the-sensitivity-skips-t/ )

Flash being used where it doesn't need to be used will die off (videos, moving banners etc) but will probably grow in terms of interactive applications (not least because people are more used to interactive apps eg on the iPhone, and Flash is the delivery method for providing those for the majority of the world's PCs). I'd like to see HTML5 used to create Farmville. I don't play Farmville, but 69 million people do, and they are not about to regress to more basic technology to satisfy Steve Jobs' arrogance. :)
