SEO Sales Pitch - How to Fail

This morning brought on a whole new level of a SEO sales pitch fail.

Some "SEO company" phoned and asked if I had a spare 5 minutes, as usual, I went along, just because it's always fun to hang fire then say 'no' at the last minute

    Anyway...

So this guy goes on about SEO, rankings, the importance of Google, blah blah, the usual waffle. Then tells me to have a look at one of their clients backlinks. This guy claimed to have gained over 500 backlinks for this site, I could only find 40, combined with Google, Bing and Yahoo 'link:domain.com' searches.

He subsequently said he was looking at my site and analysing it for SEO. We apparently use 302 redirects instead of 301 (not true), don't have alt tags for images (not true) and don't use tags (not true). He then sent me a full report...

The report was for his domain. The SEO companies. And he was right (well, kind of) - the site did use 302 redirects. Did not use alt images. Didn't use tags on the majority of the site -where tags were used, they were used very poorly (

tag with an image tag enclosed, wtf?).

FAIL. The poor tit had been looking at his own site, analysing the piss poor quality of it, and telling me his review was on my site.

    Hahahaha

I couldn't help but share my morning experience - if you find yourself answering the phone to a guy sounding like Batman (in the Dark Knight), feel free to follow the same storyline.
