SEO just got harder
  • June 2009
From Google - We just added external resource loading to our Flash indexing capabilities. This means that when a SWF file loads content from some other file—whether it's text, HTML, XML, another SWF, etc.—we can index this external content too, and associate it with the parent SWF file and any documents that embed it.

Millions of extra pages to compete against now:rolleyes:

Oh dear, i can see a load of new black hat tricks with this.

Do they say how they will take the searcher straight to the content they are searching for.

The last time i heard about flash being indexed there was not way to link directly to the content in question, just straight to the beginning of the site. So the searcher had to go through the entire site to find what they wanted

IMO this is really serious stuff if it happens. It will flood the search results with extra sites as flash developers have been after this for many years so they will be working hard. I also suspect that because gbot is indexing a text file with no other crap on there except for content then they may rank very well. Previous to this if a competitor had a flash site you could ignore it as it was not a threat.

Black hat will love this and even I can see where they will go with it. As gabe says get your tin hats on and fire up the spitfires as the BNP say.
